Chopra’s Confirmation Signals Revitalization of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and a Strong Watchdog for Consumers

WASHINGTON – Thursday afternoon, the Senate confirmed Rohit Chopra to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

In response, Open Markets’ Executive Director, Barry Lynn, released the following statement:

“All of us at Open Markets were thrilled to hear that the Senate today confirmed our close friend and ally Rohit Chopra to serve as the next director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Rohit has played an enormously important role in reviving the Federal Trade Commission and restoring its work as a core shield of American democracy. We are absolutely confident that Rohit will prove to be a powerful, creative, and strategic defender of the economic and political wellbeing of the American people in his new position. We also look forward to seeing how Rohit wields his deep understanding of competition policy to make the CFPB a strong partner for the FTC and Justice Department in combatting dangerous concentrations of power and control in the U.S. economy.”
