Washington, D.C. – The following is a statement from Barry Lynn, Executive Director at Open Markets Institute, regarding Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak’s call to break up big tech:

"When a founding father of the information industry calls for breaking the monopoly power of big tech it means the time has come for the government to act. Combined with the recent call by Chris Hughes to break up Facebook, it confirms that it’s not only Washington that’s worried about today’s monopolists, but Silicon Valley itself.

These corporations are simply too powerful. They choke off innovation and economic growth. Worse, they threaten our democracy. We strongly applaud Steve Wozniak for standing against the dangerous monopoly power of big tech."
