Open Markets Applauds Sen. Booker’s Challenge to Big Ag Monopoly

WASHINGTON — Sen. Cory Booker introduced on Monday the Farm System Reform Act of 2019 to crack down on Big Ag’s monopoly power and put a moratorium on concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). ​In light of this development, Open Markets Institute's Food & Power Reporter Claire Kelloway offers the following statement:

“Open Markets has long called for reinvigorating the Packers & Stockyards Act. The American food supply chain has become concentrated in the hands of a shrinking number of giant multinational corporations, and that harms farmers, workers, and the environment. This is a transformative step in challenging Big Ag’s monopoly power.”
