Open Markets, Public Knowledge, Common Cause and Others File Comment to FCC Against the Proposed Merger of Sprint and T-Mobile

Open Markets Institute, Public Knowledge, Common Cause, the Writer's Guild of America and the Consumers Union has filed a public comment to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding the proposed merger of Sprint and T-Mobile. The letter, filed jointly, states that the record compiled by the FCC clearly demonstrates that the proposed transaction will substantially reduce competition in the wireless market and harm consumers. The proposed merger will also raise the already high barriers to new market entry in the wireless market, and making it more difficult for MVNOs and rural providers to grow and serve their customers. The comment letter further argues that as structured, the T-Mobile-Sprint combination is illegal on its face under the antitrust laws, does not serve the public interest, and should be rejected.
